Collection: Field of Ayler

The uncensored and celebratory music of Albert Ayler, sounding with a raw sensitivity, speaking in tongues, untethered to the timeline of the body, free and spiritual.

Consider we hear the blues in this music. He learned saxophone from his father and they played duets in church. Later he attended the Cleveland School of Music. He moved to NYC in 1962 where he was a key figure in the avant-garde jazz scene, just before being called to service for the  US Army until 1964.

Later that year, his album Spiritual Unity was recorded and released by ESP-Disk. Now we re-examine the weight of transcendence. He lived in Europe and NYC where he recorded and performed vigorously until his mysterious death in Paris November 25th, 1970. Albert Ayler was a Cancer born July 13th, 1936 to Edward and Myrthle Ayler.
