Prime CD (Mack Avenue)

Christian McBride is seemingly at home in any genre. This latest one delves into an archetypal, yet not altogether common formation: a chordless quartet, reminiscent of Old & New Dreams, and of course, Ornette Coleman’s classic quartet. The first album by this band was wonderful, and this one’s even better. Both brash and subtle, this album contains some stunning musical moments.
