Old/Quartet Sessions CD (Nessa Records)

This 2-CD set provides a comprehensive record of saxophonist/composer Roscoe Mitchell's 1967 Art Ensemble, featuring Lester Bowie (trumpet), Malachi Favors (bass), and Phillip Wilson (drums). The first disc, originally titled "Old/Quartet" and released on vinyl in 1975, captures their early work. The second disc, part of the limited edition CD box "The Art Ensemble 1967/68," presents further historical material from this significant period in the ensemble's evolution.
