"Natural Selection" follows drummer/composer Dan Weiss's critically acclaimed "Starebaby." This album marries doom metal, electronic music, and improvisation. Featuring the Starebaby band, it includes Ben Monder on guitar, Trevor Dunn on bass, and twin-keyboardists Matt Mitchell and Craig Taborn. Drawing inspiration from David Lynch's "Twin Peaks," the album explores the dreamlike and foreboding, shifting between heavy intensity and atmospheric passages. Weiss, inspired by this, even learned to play the electric bass to approach rock-oriented tracks. This dynamic album captures wide-ranging emotion, solos, and group interplay.
