Building upon his renowned Underground quartet, Potter expands the ensemble with two bassists, a string quartet, and vibraphone marvel Steve Nelson. The title composition, a sprawling suite with movements like "Compassion" and "Rebuilding," showcases Potter's exceptional playing. The album seamlessly blends tightly composed material with free improvisation, drawing from diverse musical influences, including Arabic and Indian strings and contemporary composition. Recorded in 2013 and produced by Manfred Eicher, "Imaginary Cities" represents Potter's creative zenith.
